Weather at Temple (Holy Shrine Cave)

The Bhawan, also known as Vaishno Devi Bhawan, is the main shrine complex for the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, located in the Trikuta Mountains of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Bhawan is situated at an elevation of approximately 1,584 meters (5,197 feet) above sea level. The weather at Bhawan can vary significantly depending on the season due to its higher altitude.

  • Spring (March to May): Spring is generally mild and pleasant at Bhawan. Daytime temperatures can range from approximately 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F). This is a good time for pilgrimage, as the weather is comfortable for outdoor activities. Kids may require woolen clothes.
  • Summer (June to August): Summer at Bhawan can be warm during the day, with temperatures ranging from around 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). However, evenings and nights tend to be cooler. During the monsoon season in July and August, there may be occasional rainfall, so carrying appropriate rain gear is advisable.
  • Autumn (September to November): The Trikut Mountain there, has three peaks (hence the name Trikoot), the revelation of the Mother Goddess in the Holy Cave is in a natural rock form which is one at the base but has three heads at the top.These three heads in a natural rock form are known as the Holy Pindies and are worshipped as the revelation of the Mother Goddess. The entire rock body is immersed in water, and a marble platform has now been constructed all around. The main Darshans remain to be of the three heads called the Holy Pindies. The uniqueness of the Holy Pindies is that although they emanate from one single rock form, each one is distinctly different from the other two in colour and texture.
  • Winter (December to February):: Winter at Bhawan can be quite cold, with daytime temperatures ranging from -5°C to 10°C (28°F to 50°F) and colder temperatures at night.
