The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) manages the Vaishno Devi Temple and its surroundings. It was established in August 1986 under the Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act, 1986. The main purpose of the Shrine Board is to manage and oversee the administration, governance, and development of the revered Vaishno Devi Shrine and its surroundings.

The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed the Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act, 1986, which led to the formation of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

The primary objective of forming the Shrine Board was to ensure better management, development, and governance of the Vaishno Devi Shrine and its pilgrimage facilities.

The Shrine Board is responsible for various activities, including the maintenance of the pilgrimage routes, provision of basic amenities to pilgrims, development of infrastructure, and management of donations and offerings.

Since its establishment, the Shrine Board has undertaken various development projects to improve facilities for pilgrims, such as accommodation, medical facilities, food arrangements, and security.

The Shrine Board has also covered multiple milestones in primary and higher education of students. Board runs a Gurukul and a degree college called Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board College of Excellence, Katra.
